Why are more TikTok tools using User IDs instead of usernames?

I've noticed that many TikTok tools now ask for a User ID (UID) instead of a username.

At first I thought it was unnecessary, but after working with multiple TikTok accounts, it actually makes sense.

Here are a few reasons:

  • Usernames can be changed.
  • A UID stays the same.
  • It's more reliable for data collection and automation.
  • Many APIs and analytics tools identify accounts by UID rather than username.

If you're doing influencer research, TikTok Shop, or managing multiple accounts, using the UID can avoid a lot of issues when usernames change.

I'm curious how everyone here handles this.

  • Do you look up the UID manually?
  • Do you use an online tool?
  • Or do you get it through an API?

I'd love to hear what workflow everyone is using.
