Quick question for the SEO crowd:
Since Google generally treats subdomains as separate sites, does that mean we could technically scale using just one domain and spin up multiple subdomains instead of buying new domains?
Example: example.com, site1.example.com, site2.example.com each acting as its own “money site.”
The reason I’m asking is cost. If someone wants to scale to ~100 sites monthly, buying domains alone could run $1,300+ monthly Subdomains would avoid that expense.
But here’s the trade‑off I’m wondering about:

But here’s the trade‑off I’m wondering about:
- Do subdomains really start from zero authority, meaning you’d need to build links for each one separately?
- Or can they benefit from the root domain’s authority in practice?
- Is this a viable scaling strategy, or does it dilute SEO power compared to using subdirectories or separate domains?
