Google comes up with a new type of searching - VOICE search - For Discussion

While using Google I have noticed a link at the bottom of the homepage that leads to a page about the new voice searching function, this thread is open for discussion (how to make use of this, pros, and cons ... etc)

Yea, good for smartphones because they have already a mic. Bad for people who has desktop computers without a mic, you have to install it first or turn it on, I'm lazy, I just wanna type porn, I don't wanna say it, thats weird.

There may be an opportunity for words that come up under a different pronunciation. I have voice searching on my phone, and it sometimes can't figure out what I'm trying to say...especially if it's an acronym.

Or, if people say "lowes home improvement", it might come back with "lows home improvement", which is a keyword variation you can target

Kinda like targeting misspelled words.

5 years from now desktops as laptops do now may have microphones installed in the screen and may be a lot cleverer and able to filter out background noise (always on) there is an app available now on android vlingo where you can switch voice rec on just by telling it to.

It is worth thinking about this will be coming and it a natural next step as it reduced the requirement for cumbersome keyboards.

For me this isn't an if its a when!!

lol, I just tried it. I don't have a mic though and used my headphones as a mic.

I said "Captain Kirk" and Google searched for "Good Girl".

yea voice search has been around for uite some time on google phone apps. it sucks thou or at least i dont like it

I don't think this is going to be that big for awhile, not until a lot more products come out with inbuilt microphones as well as software that can more accurately separate background noise from the actual users voice.

Nice feature, just downloaded it to my mobile but I really doubt that people will use it, it's like the voice dialing... how many of you actually use it?
