I have a mounted windows 7 OS on a disk, and I set up a virtual machine for windows 7.

My MacBook has 4 GB of RAM and 500 GB of storage. When ever I launch virtual box, my macbook is disgustingly slow.

Any tips on what settings I should put my Windows VM on? What are the reasons for it being slow? I wanna run SEO tools off my VM, is that a good idea?

More ram and a SSD if you can get one. If your mac is old you could even be bottlenecking at the cpu, but I doubt it.
More ram is probably going to give you the most immediate noticeable improvement either way.

activity monitor can be used to help you nail down what is in high usage, but I'm sure it is ram. Its going to be using 1-2gb minimum and win7 really does best with at least 4gb. A fresh install isn't too bad but once you get using those tools it probably will be.
