Movie Format to watch on my TV

Hi , I want to know how i can watch a movie from my memory stick. I have a film which is saved on MP4 format, but when i tried to play it, it says unsupported format. Please can you advise what format i will need to convert it to be able to watch it on my TV? Thanks

It's impossible to say without knowing what kind of TV you have, but MP4 is usually a pretty standard format. I would suggest getting a raspberry pi and install XBMC on it.
