what is the consequence if I buy an aged domain with a low reference domain?

I saw an aged domain with a good number of backlinks and anchor text relevant to my niche; however, it has only 16 reference domains. Any advice? Is it good to go, or should I find another one?

Its good to go, if most of these links are from articles with good domains. If you want something really, go with 50+ ones with good authority domains.

But the one you find if its history (wayback) is clean and links are good and looks natural, just go for it.
