I have two websites: an old established site where articles rank high and fast, and a newer site that is climbing. Will google penalize me if I link from the old site to the new site in an article?

Google generally doesn't penalize websites for linking between their own pages, especially if the links are natural and relevant. In fact, internal linking can be beneficial for SEO as it helps search engines understand the structure and context of your website.

You can have a banner of new site under the header of old site. Google doesn't care as long as you don't resort to link farming and some blackhat tactics. You can add rel=”sponsored” if you just want the traffic to new site instead of backlinks.

Linking from your old established site to your new one won't get you penalized as long as it's done naturally.
