I bought an aged domain. it has a couple of crazy backlinks and already ranking for some keywords. my original goal was to post content written by chatgpt and rank. I was trying to experiment how much laziness I can get away with. here is the results:
1) google is refusing to index 100% chatgpt written content
2) google is refusing to index chatgpt written content that was edited by me
3) google is indexing 100% human written content

1 and 3 did not surprise me. what surprised me was 2.

I read here that if you edit ai written content, google cannot detect it's ai written. but even when I did that, google is refusing to index it. I added a lot of new stuff to the ai written content. I would say by word count 60% is new stuff I wrote myself. yet, google is refusing to index.

so is the only option to write things yourself 100% by hand? is there a software that can make ai written content undetectable? I think we need to go back to the good old days of spinners?
is my domain penalized now? even if I write human written content it won't rank because google thinks this guy is posting ai written content let's fuck him?

I doubt your domain is penalized. Indexing on an aged domain often has more to do with what the page offers than who wrote it. Pages that cover the same points as the top ten results tend to sit in "crawled, currently not indexed" even when edited, because Google sees nothing new. Your fully human pages probably had firsthand details the AI drafts lacked. Check those unindexed URLs in Search Console, then rewrite one with a real test, a screenshot, or a specific number from your own experience, and link to it internally from a page that already ranks. Also make sure the old backlinks point to topics close to what you publish now. If that page gets indexed within a couple of weeks, you know the issue is uniqueness, not a sitewide flag.
