Would it be worth it to write articles promoting my website?

I am launching a website and thinking of some way to get some free backlinks.

One thing I thought about was writing a bunch of articles reviewing the website on free blogging platforms like Medium.

The articles would basically explain the website and what it does.

I think this would be good for both promotion and for building authority.

What do you all think?

It is good, may help get your website noticed, crawled and indexed but no, it won't boost your authority nor help you rank.

Not that it would totally do nothing, what it would do wouldn't be strong enough rank your site or boost site authority.

Yes definitely do it. It'll help raise engagement and awareness to your website especially if you post on social media and forums
